GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates played one of their better games of the season defeating perennial West Virginia baseball power 6-0 in the Jim Vaughn Smith Classic Thursday.
Sophomore pitcher Keaton Taylor hurled a complete game, two-hit shutout for Belfry.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Logan sophomore pitcher Cameron Sammons hit the first two batters he faced, Taylor and Eli Huddle.
Then base hits by Zack Francisco and Joey Duty scored Taylor and Huddle
Francisco led the Pirates at the plate with a double and to singles, Zac Fields had a pair of hits, Duty had two hits, Reed Williamson a single and Taylor a base hit.
Trent Dalton and Brent Vance had the two hits for the visiting Wildcats.
On Friday night, the Pirates took on the Hazard Bulldogs.
Belfry scored the first run of the game, but ended up losing 3-1. This is the third game the Pirates have lost to the Bulldogs this season.
In the nightcap of the JVSC, Pikeville outslugged MaGoffin County 11-9.
Belfry is scheduled to host Sheldon Clark Monday and travel to Logan, W.Va. on Wednesday, May 1.
