BUCKLEYS CREEK, Ky. – The Pike Central Hawks squeezed by the Belfry Pirates 4-3 on Monday evening in a 60th District regular season battle.
Belfry scored three runs in the top of the 3rd inning to take a 3-0 lead.
However, Pike Central plated two runs in the bottom of the 4th frame and two more in the bottom of the 5th inning to take the lead.
The Pirates got their three runs when Zack Francisco reached safely on error by the left fielder Aaron Scott. Eli Huddle then smashed a double to knock in Francisco.
Zac Fields then reached safely on an error by the catcher Andrew Fields and Huddle was able to score on the play. Madison Ghormley was safe on a fielder’s choice. Joey Duty then doubled to center field and Ghormley reached third base. He scored on a Reed Williamson RBI grounder to first base. That ended the Belfry rally.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, Pike Central’s Blake Clark was hit by a pitch and then Hunter Clark was safe on an error by Francisco. Hunter Clark scored on Dylan Wright’s RBI single to center.
In the 5th inning, the Hawk’s Wes Pugh cracked a single to deep short. Then Andrew Fields was safe on fielder’s choice and Mac Justice walked.
Justice then stole second base and H. Clark cracked a single to left field to drive in a run.
Justice then scored on an error by catcher Caleb Stanley.
Blake Clark was the winning hurler pitching a complete game. He only gave up six hits, had eight strike outs and walked two. Zac Fields took the loss for the Pirates. He also had eight strikeouts, gave up five hits in five innings, walking one and he hit one batter.
Belfry is now 7-12 on the season and was slated to play Mingo Central at Lefty Hamilton Park today, weather permitting. Pike Central is now 10-8 was scheduled to travel to Allen Central today (Wednesday).
