There is plenty of high school basketball action this weekend for area sports fans.
The annual John Preece Shootout is slated for Friday and Saturday at Tug Valley High School. It will include both boys’ and girls’ games.
Tonight, the Lady Panthers will take on Greater Beckley Christian at 5:30 p.m, while the two boy’s squads will tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday there is full day of basketball scheduled. At 1:00 p.m. the Tug Valley girls JV squad will play Riverview, while the varsity contest is set for 3:00 p.m.
The Tug Valley Panthers are scheduled to take on Ashland Paul Blazer on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The JV game will be played before the varsity contest at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The shootout is named in honor of the late John Preece, who was the former coach and principal at the old Kermit High School.
Meanwhile, Mingo Central will be hosting a pair of Cardinal Conference games this weekend. The Miners will take on Tolsia tonight and will play the Wayne Pioneers up on the mountaintop campus of MCHS.
Mingo Central owns a win over Tolsia from earlier in the season. The game is important in the tournament seeding coming up in late February.
Over in Kentucky, Belfry travels to East Ridge in what should be a good regional contest.
The Lady Pirates will travel to Jenkins Saturday night, while the lady Hornets of Phelps are at South Floyd.
