GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates pulled out another good win over the Tolsia Rebels in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic 74 to 69 in overtime this past Saturday.
“It was another good win in overtime over Tolsia,” said head coach Randy Casey. “Our guys found a way to win after having to play so hard the night before.”
Belfry upset Tug Valley on Friday night in a hard-fought local rivalry 80-76.
“I am very proud of the way our team played Saturday night in crunch time. We found a way to win, even though we didn’t have much gas left in the tank from the night before. That being said - our best basketball is still ahead of us – and we still can get a lot better,” Casey added.
Josh Robinson, a senior guard, led Belfry with 23 points, followed closely by senior center Tony Messer who had 22 points. Senior guard Brett Charles was close behind as he fired in 19 points.
Sean Hurley, who had a hot hand on Friday night, chipped in four points and Nick West added six off the bench.
Tolsia was led by Terry Davis with 20, Morgan Stacy with 15, Brandon Clark with 14 and Morgan Williamson with 10 points. Austin Brewer added nine for the Rebels balanced scoring attack.
Belfry is now 6-2, which is one of the team’s best starts in the last few seasons. They are scheduled to travel to Phelps on Friday for a district game and then head over to Johnson Central on Saturday night.
