BRADSHAW – Although at times it was like they were swimming upstream, the Lady Panthers of Tug Valley defeated River View 42 to 33 Friday night at the recently consolidated school located in Bradshaw, W.Va.
Tug Valley trailed after the first quarter 8-6 and at the half 15-11, but outscored the home team 31 to 18 in the second half to pull out the victory.
“We just were not ready to play and I guess that is my fault because it is my job to get them ready,” said head coach Okey Smith. “I told them at halftime that it was the worse half of ball that any of my teams had played in all the years I have coached.”
“We came out and played much better in the third quarter and held on down the stretch to win the game,” said Smith.
“We did have some bright spots. I thought that Amber (Linville) played better tonight especially in the second half and Hannah (Armstrong) had a good second half. I thought that Emily Baisden, Haylea Dempsey and Katie Robinson played well for us off the bench.”
Junior Hannah Armstrong led Tug Valley with 13 point and eight rebounds, while Amber Linville banked in 11 points and hauled in a game high 13 rebounds. Linville also had a couple of assists. Adreana Vance chipped in five points, but also had seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
River View was led by Kireston Dority with 12 points and Phyllis Waldron who scored 10 points.
“I would like to invite everyone to come and watch us play at home on Monday. It is our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game and we have declared it a PINK-out at Tug Valley High School on Monday so we encourage everyone to wear pink,” Smith said.
Tug Valley is now (2-0) on the season and will play Belfry at home on Monday. River View is now (0-3) on the season. They will play at Mt. View on Tuesday.
