Coal train derails at Belo

BELO - Railroad officials are investigating experienced the minor derailment of a train pulling empty coal cars the early hours of Friday morning.

According to According to Bob Maloney, a supervisor in Norfolk Southern’s Williamson Yard, the accident occurred at 1:40 a.m. Friday. He said the trail was taking approximately 100 empty coal cars to Northland Coal Company to be filled.

“Only three cars actually came off the track,” Maloney said. “Some wheels on five additional cars came off the rails, but they were not completely off the track.”

Donahoe Brothers Construction began cleaning up the wreck at about 8:30 Friday, that process was expected to take several hours. The cars will be returned to the Williamson Yard to be repaired.

No one was injured in the accident, which is still under investigation by Norfolk Southern.
