PEYTONA – Human remains have been found in a trailer at Peytona, according to the Boone County’s Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators were called to the trailer, located just off state Route 3 at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night and then Kanawha County dispatchers put out an alert about 6:15 a.m. Thursday for two people police wanted to question for a possible homicide that happened in Peytona.

Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller says the decomposing body of 71-year-old Jimmie Cooper was found late Wednesday night inside the trailer.

The man had been missing for about a week, the sheriff said.

The home did show signs of a forced entry and the man’s car was missing. The vehicle has since been recovered in Putnam County, investigators said.

Investigators said they are not sure at this time how the man died, and his body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Charleston for an autopsy and to try to determine a cause of death.

Investigators are still investigating and processing the crime scene. Interviews are also being conducted and the case is being treated as a homicide.
