NAUGATUCK –Veteran football coach Tony Clusky is back on the sidelines after a few years away from the sport.


Clusky will be the head coach at Tug Valley High School this season. He takes over for Tyler Hodge, who served as interim coach last season. Hodge will remain as an assistant coach.


Clusky started out his coaching career as the head coach at Matewan Junior High School for two seasons. He then served as an assistant coach at Matewan High School for nine years.


Clusky took his first high school head coaching position at Williamson where he served as the head mentor for 10 seasons.


He served one year as head coach at Tug Valley in 2006 taking them to the playoffs. Clusky is also the athletic director for the school.


He was also the head baseball coach at Matewan and Tug Valley at different times during his career. He teaches Drivers Education at TVHS.


His father Joe Clusky was the longtime basketball coach at Matewan. The elder Clusky was also an assistant football coach and head baseball coach for the Tigers during his tenure.


Okey Smith and Greg Smith will once again serve as assistant coaches for the Panthers.
